Keeping things safe and positive online

in sponsored on 13/09/14

I’m taking a break from my home decor and crafts to share a super important message. It seems like technology is everywhere. We are in a digital world and our family uses digital technology daily. It’s amazing to me when I think of how much we do on the internet and equally amazing when I think of how my children are so tech savvy! My son accesses math practice work and spelling lists online as part of his homework. He even plays apps to improve his piano skills. So many wonderful ways to improve his learning and help him grow.  As parent’s we use various kinds of technology and devices from websites for our business’s, photography editing and scrapbooking, shopping, to keeping in touch with friends and family via email and social media. It really is amazing.

As much as I love technology and the many benefits it provides for our family, we as a family try and keep things as safe as we can and have set up certain rules and parameters for our internet use. My husband and I limit the amount of personal information we share on the internet. My son also knows what programs, apps, devices he can get on and usually only with a parent close by to monitor. Keeping my family safe is definitely #1. It has been huge for us that as a family we have all communicated together and kept the dialog open. It is scary to think about what we, and especially our kids, can come across on the internet.

National PTA has partnered with LifeLock to share awesome ways families can create an open, evolving conversation about positive, safe decisions when using digital tools. It’s all part of having a happy, healthy lifestyle. For you, your family, your friends, and the whole world – everyone benefits when you #ShareAwesome! I am loving that this focuses not only on the skills we need to be safe but also being positive online! Sometimes it seems like people act differently online and it is important to realize you need to maintain positivity whether you are online or offline. In addition to the campaign, they are also having a fun contest.

Snap a photo of an awesome moment in your day and share it on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram with the #ShareAwesome hashtag!

Students who enter the #ShareAwesome contest between September 15 – November 30, 2014 will have a chance to win fantastic prizes, including tablets and a $2,500 scholarship!

The internet is an awesome way to influence the world. Let’s continue to #ShareAwesome and be a positive influence for those around us!&nbsp

I was selected for this opportunity as a member of Clever Girls Collective and the content and opinions expressed here are all my own.
